THEATRE RENOVATION AND CONSTRUCTION
PHASE II CONSTRUCTION
Now that the theatre is opened for the “Interlude” between construction phases, the Lake County Arts Council and the Soper-Reese committee continue to raise funds and plan for the next phases of theatre construction. It is estimated the remaining work will cost $700,000, so with $50,000 in hand and an additional $200,000 now assured from our benefactors, Jim & Florence Soper, we are facing the challenge of raising an additional $450,000.
Here is what remains to be accomplished;
- Install new door in the South wall along side Martin Street and
- Construct ramp, stairs and fully paved and landscaped courtyard outside the new door.
- Raise the 2 sets of double doors in West wall and complete the stage construction with curtain and lighting supports
- Install fire sprinklers under the stage
- Complete theatrical lighting system
- (new) construction of restroom/dressing room facility
- Flood proof exterior of building
- Paint exterior of building
- Completely remodel the lobby with new state of the art, disabled persons accessible rest rooms
- Construct new curbs, gutters and sidewalks along Martin Street and Forbes Street and repave and landscape rear parking lot
PHASE I CONSTRUCTION
After raising the necessary funds, the first phase of theatre construction was begun in May of 2007 and successfully completed 7 months later in December 2007, “on budget” for $488,000.
The purpose of the Phase I work was intended to make the building safe and comfortable to occupy so that the community could see the project could and would be completed as promised by providing:
- a new roof
- new heating, ventilation & air conditioning systems
- new power (& lots of it) from PG& E
- new electrical distribution system
- a fire sprinkler system throughout the building
- a new water main across Martin Street to support the sprinkler system
- a new concrete floor
- new house lighting in the main theatre
- repairs to the ceiling
- 2 new temporary double doors in the West wall at rear of theatre
Addition Phase II work was also accomplished as follows;
- Painting the interior of the main theatre
- Construction of a portion of the permanent, professional stage
- Purchase of professional, portable staging
- Purchase of a state of the art sound system
- Partial purchase of the theatrical lighting system
- Purchase of new seating
