VOICE OF THE THEATRE
By Mike Adams, Executive Director
Soper Reese Theatre

Hey everyone out there in Lake County! Thanks to you the months of March and April brought three of the largest and most successful events at the Soper Reese to date. The Professional Pianists Concert was a big hit with a near sell-out audience, creating quite a buzz in the community. Talk of considering it an annual event has already surfaced.

Then there was the r-e-a-l-l-y big one -- The Lost Boys concerts on April 1 & 2. This event showed that the Soper Reese can put on a high level performance and still maintain a family atmosphere. Three local, young and up and coming groups participated in these performances. The event was challenging to our all-volunteer organization, but we received many compliments including those from the bands, and the promoter Greg Bennett.

The third sold out performance was the Second Annual Celebrity Lip Sync, put on by the Lake County Chamber of Commerce. This event not only had a full audience, but included more than 70 performers, and when you include the volunteers of the Chamber and the Soper-Reese, the total involved in the production was over 100. Whew!

They’re Back
The return of John and Barbara Ross to the core of theatre volunteers is celebrated amongst the SRCT group. John’s leadership and Barb’s work ethic and attention to details were sorely missed. They have already been active at the theatre, but are still assessing what their new roles will be. Whatever their roles, they will be an asset.

Coming Up
What’s next? The last Third Friday Live of the season is set for May 20 with Uncorked! and the Cobb Mountain Stompers. Look for more of the best in local entertainment starting again in September. Then there’s the annual Mother’s Day Concert on May 8 by the Clear Lake Performing Arts (CLPA) Symphony.

Facelift Fundraiser
Finally we are about to launch a major fundraising effort to renovate the façade of the theatre. This is an $80,000 project and, when complete, will have a huge positive effect on the look and feel of downtown Lakeport. Look for announcements in the theatre lobby, on our Web site (www.soperreesetheatre.com) and in the mail on the “Facelift” fundraiser.
